To transfer the management of a PT domain (.pt and .com.pt) you need to get the respective transfer code. This can be obtained from the national regulatory authority for PT domains (www.pt.pt).

To be able to do it easily, you must perform the following steps:

1: Go to DNS PT

  • Go to www.pt.pt, and in the upper right corner, click on "Reserved Area".

2: Login on DNS PT

  • If you have your NIC-HANDLE and password, you must enter these in the login fields and proceed to point 3) - Your NIC-HANDLE can be provided by the current domain manager, or if you purchased it directly from 'DNS PT' , will be in the welcome email. If you do not know this data, click on the link "Forgot password?" and go to 2.1).

2.1: On the password recovery screen, enter the email associated with the domain registration, select the country and enter the VAT number associated with the domain holder contact. Click "Send".

You will receive the authentication data in the email associated with the domain - there is a high probability that it will be the same one used to access the customer area of the previous service provider, if you have registered with it.

3: Select your domain

  • After logging in, within the .PT reserved area, you will verify the respective domains associated with you as the holder. To access domain management, click on the domain name you want to get transfer code.

4: Get transfer code

  • You will be able to consult information about the domain, such as the registration date and the related entities (owner, manager and technician). Among the available information, in the 'GENERAL INFORMATION' tab you can obtain the transfer key.

The transfer of management of a domain does not include the change of the nameservers. After transferring management, you should check if the nameservers need to be updated and act accordingly.

Some entities cancel the services associated with a certain domain - Web services and/or DNS - after confirming the transfer of management. In these cases, we suggest that you guarantee the migration of contents and associated DNS records in advance to the entity to which you will transfer the management of the domain.
